VTAF ON ORIGIN
LIVE AURORA GOLD TURNTABLE WITH ENCOUNTER
TONE ARM-PART 2

With the nut bound by the sub-chassis,
simple maintenance or removal of the VTAF Extension Plate becomes a chore.
Leveling and paralleling of the arm board with the platter may also be
compromised.
OK. Here is another view of the captured nut as it presses against the
sub-chassis assembly. The modification to the sub-chassis with the arm
board re-mounted is shown in the picture below.

I used a Bosch Roto Zip 1/8" Tile Cutting Bit in the Dremel to remove a bit
of the sub-chassis webbing where it was hitting the nut and screw.
This arrangement makes everything better again. Please
note: This cutting procedure produces lots of sparks!
YOU MUST, MUST, MUST WEAR PROTECTIVE EYE COVERING
WHILE PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE!!! |

Main spindle bearing (top) and main
bearing cover (bottom).
Now we turn our attention to getting everything back together and finally
trying out the VTAF! We need to raise the level of the platter, since
if left where it is now at, there will be little or no adjustment available
to the VTAF. This is a very easy adjustment to make. Use a
rubber sheet-type bottle/jar opener to loosen the Main Bearing Cover on the
sub-chassis. It's the big cylinder sticking out of the bottom of the
sub-chassis assembly, shown above. Un-screw the Main Bearing (the
threaded part sticking UP from the sub-chassis that the spindle goes into).
Make it about as high as the picture shows and re-tighten the bottom cover.

Putting it all together...
Here's another view, a more general one, of how everything looks in the Main
Bearing area once the VTAF, The VTAF Extension Plate and Tone Arm are
installed/re-installed according to Pete's Instructions. You will
probably have to experiment a bit to find the best height for the Main
Bearing. You may also need to place another one or two of those
neat little cork circles under each motor foot in order to bring the belt
height back to the middle of the sub-platter.

If you use a mat, like the one above, you can now decide
if you want to use it or not, or with which records you may want to use it
and with which ones you don't! Now there is no problem in
making the adjustment...On-The-Fly! |

|
 |
And there we have it. You are now
all set to complete your adjustments and sit back, relax, and enjoy sounds
like you have NEVER heard before. My VTAF works
as advertised. FABULOUSLY!!! It was well worth
the effort to get such pronounced and profound improvements in almost
every facet of the sound reproduction from this, an already outstanding
turntable and tone arm combination. |
